Serhiy Salov is an artist established at the highest international level. He is the first prizewinner of three international competitions (Dudley 2000, Épinal 201 and Montreal 2004), and he has performed with several of the world’s leading orchestras and conductors, including the Montreal Symphony, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Tokyo Symphony.
Beginning in 18th-century Germany, Serhiy will interpret the exquisite collection of dances in J. S. Bach’s 4th Partita in D Major, along with excerpts from the Musical Offering, the composer’s last major work. From the 19th/20th-century Maurice Ravel, Serhiy will play the ballet-inspired La Valse in the composer’s own transcription for the piano. Completing the program, Serhiy will present two of his own transcriptions of orchestral works by French composer Claude Debussy (Nocturnes) and Russian composer Modest Mussorgsky (Night on a Bare Mountain).
The Master Piano Recital Series has quickly become recognized as one of the most important additions to the Ottawa arts scene. Filling a niche in a city that is otherwise overflowing with music of almost every variety, the MPRS focuses on the rich legacy of the classical piano, bringing superb pianists performing marvelous repertoire, live, in the heart of the Ottawa Community. Serhiy’s concert will be the third of five concerts spanning the 2013/14 season.
